Branden Grace is relishing the defence of his Nedbank Golf Challenge as the European Tour reaches its penultimate event this season. The South African clearly enjoys playing in his homeland, with last year’s one-shot victory over Scott Jamieson in Sun City his fourth success there.
Grace claimed the 2012 Joburg Open while he also took the Volvo Golf Champions event in the same year.
The Alfred Dunhill Championship followed in 2014 before last year’s triumph at Gary Player Country Club, and the 30-year-old is buzzing ahead of Thursday’s first round.
“It’s great being back,” he told the European Tour website. “A nice thing about days like today is you go out and relive those moments. You kind of remember where you made those crucial putts and where you made those crucial shots and things like that. “I’m super excited to be back here obviously.”
The man from Pretoria will face the likes of Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia in the sixth of seven Rolex Series events and is hoping to make a successful defence as he did when winning back-to-back Commercial Bank Qatar Masters titles in 2015 and 2016. “This is a tough week defending. It’s never easy, but I’ve done it before, so hopefully we can do it again,” he added.
