Javi Gracia says Gerard Deulofeu’s injury problems have been dragging on but the Spaniard should return “soon”. The ex-Barcelona and Everton star has missed the Hornets’ perfect start to the Premier League campaign after picking up an abdominal problem in pre-season.
But, speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena SER, Gracia confirmed that Watford fans won’t have to wait much longer to see the popular playmaker back on the pitch.
He said: “Deulofeu’s problems drag on, but he will soon be with us. [Marc] Navarro and [Kiko] Femenia are in a position where we have enough players, [but] I am very happy with them ”
Gracia insists he has a good relationship with Watford owner Gino Pozzo, who has more understanding of football than other chairmen.
The Spanish coach has worked under several different personalities in the past – a politician at Rubin Kazan, a sheikh at Malaga and a lawyer at Osasuna – and now Watford managing director Pozzo, who takes a hands-on approach at the club’s training ground.
He said: “With everyone, I felt very good. Logically, I had a different relationship with each of them because they are very different. In Malaga, for example, it was not very close, but there was another organisation. Gino Pozzo lives here, he is always in the Sports City. And it is a fluid relationship.
“I prefer [to work with someone who has understanding of football], because you can talk about technical issues and there are certain explanations that can be better understood.”
