Gracia Hopeful Over Attacking Duo

Watford boss Javi Gracia is hopeful Gerard Deulofeu and Roberto Pereyra will be fit for Saturday’s Premier League opener against Brighton. Spanish ace Deulofeu missed the Hornets’ final two pre-season friendlies against Queens Park Rangers and Real Sociedad with a muscle problem that is being managed by the club’s medical team, but Gracia expects the 25-year-old to return to training early this week.

“Gerard is training. Maybe on Tuesday he will train with the team and I think he will be ready,” Gracia told the Watford Observer. Pereyra is also hoping to prove his fitness ahead of the clash with Brighton, as he only returned to training at the weekend after being granted an extended break following his exertions with Argentina at the Copa America.

Gracia feels the 28-year-old will be able to play some part against the Seagulls, although he will, by no means, be fully up to speed. “Pereyra finished [his season] later than the rest of the team and after three weeks resting he has started to train,” Gracia added. “Some days he’s training with the team, others alone but I think he will be ready for the next game, not at his best level but he will be ready to compete.”
