Romain Grosjean has placed his support behind Haas’ decision to bring in Pietro Fiitipaldi as a full-time test driver. The Brazilian was confirmed as Haas’ new test driver for 2019 earlier this month and he will get his first taste of action at the post-season tyre test in Abu Dhabi on November 27.
Fittipaldi, who is the grandson of two-time champion Emerson Fittipaldi, only recently recovered from breaking both legs in a crash at the Spa Round of the World Endurance Championship in May.
Grosjean feels Fittipaldi’s arrival will help to address some issues in the team’s current operations and believes it is a step in the right direction. “We need some help in the team, especially on the simulator side,” said Grosjean. “We are still working on plans and making sure we get better.
“It will be good to have [Pietro]. He will have a taste of the car in Abu Dhabi and he can jump in the simulator and work on the correlation [so that] when we get it, it is nice and ready to go.”
