Grosjean Sees No End To Trios Dominance

Grosjean Sees No End To Trios Dominance

Romain Grosjean says he doesn’t expect his Haas team or anyone else to get the better of F1’s ‘big three’ in a race before 2021.

The Frenchman is hopeful his Haas will be more competitive in 2018 having finished fifth in the Constructors’ Championship, Grosjean collecting 37 points as he came home in 14th in the individual standings.

Despite the American team making steady progress in their second season in Formula 1, they, like the majority of the grid, were still left trailing in the wake of Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari.

Those three teams have won every race for the last five years between them and Grosjean says there needs to be changes to the rules to make the sport more competitive.

However, with no changes forthcoming, the 32-year-old says he can’t see anyone breaking the monopoly the top three currently have any time soon, predicting it will be another two years before a different car wins.

“I think Formula 1 needs to get better at having more chances to win races,” said Grosjean. “I don’t think that’s going to be before 2021.

“If you look at the midfield race last year was quite exciting, a lot of changing of orders, and then there’s another race at the front. Ideally you would like as many teams as possible to be fighting for a win.”
