Groves Ignores Froch Bait

Groves Ignores Froch Bait

George Groves says he harbours no ill feelings toward Carl Froch after the comments made about his retirement. The 30-year-old confirmed the decision to hang up his gloves on Monday, the decision coming after he lost his WBA (Super) super-middleweight world title to Callum Smith last September.

It took Groves four attempts to win a world crown and it came after he had twice lost to Froch, in 2013 and 2014, both in controversial manner.

When asked for his reaction to Monday’s news, the ‘Cobra’ said he believed his rival had struggled to repeat the same levels he produced in their two bouts.

The comments have been perceived as somewhat of a parting shot, but the Londoner says he harbours no bad feelings towards his fellow Brit. “It’s Carl, so he shoots from the hip, and he’s fully entitled to do that whenever he comments about myself because we had a real intense rivalry,” Groves told Sky Sports. “As much as I wish it was different, he came out on top, so fair play to him.”
