Ilkay Gundogan is reportedly ready to snub continued interest from Barcelona to discuss signing a new deal at the Etihad. The Manchester City and Germany international midfielder was the subject of interest during the summer from Nou Camp officials, who were close to signing the player when he was previously a stand-out figure for Borussia Dortmund.
Gundogan has less than two years left on his City deal but sources close to his camp have hinted the 27-year-old is ready to commit his peak years to the reigning Premier League champions.
Pep Guardiola made the silky playmaker his first signing when he took over the Citizens in the summer of 2016, paying Dortmund a knockdown £20m figure, in light of ongoing injury issues.
It is understood Gundogan is happy in Manchester and feels comfortable in his present surroundings, especially since the recent backlash from some fans back in Germany over his support for his Turkish roots.
City insiders state it will likely be after the busy Christmas period before the club decide to sit down with ‘Gundo’, and Guardiola’s recent decision to extend his own stay in Manchester is another major factor in the player’s present thinking.
