West Ham Hit By Double Blow

West Ham striker Andy Carroll will miss the rest of the season, while there are also doubts over the fitness of Samir Nasri. Carroll, who last featured for the Irons in the 1-0 defeat at Manchester City on February 27 has had ankle surgery, which will rule him out for the rest of the season.

Following the operation, Carroll will now be set for an extended spell on the sidelines – which with the forward being out of contract in the summer, could signal the end of his stay at West Ham. Carroll spent the opening part of the season in recovery after earlier surgery on his ankle, eventually returning to action in December.

Carroll has made a total of 14 appearances for Manuel Pellegrini’s side this season, scoring once in the 2-0 FA Cup win over Birmingham. Meanwhile, Nasri has picked up a calf injury while warming up at half-time against Chelsea last night, and boss Manuel Pellegrini is keen to discover the full extent of the damage.

“Samir Nasri was going to start the second half,” Pellegrini said. “But in the warm-up he felt a muscle injury in his calf and wasn’t confident to play. We will see how bad it is on Tuesday.”
