Hammers Land Free Agent Keeper

West Ham have announced goalkeeper David Martin will join on a free transfer when his contract with Championship club Millwall expires. The Hammers have been on the hunt for a new back-up keeper as Adrian will depart when his deal comes to an end and the Premier League club have now announced the capture of Martin, who has agreed a two-year deal.

The 33-year-old is the second goalkeeper to join West Ham on a free transfer this summer, as Roberto will also arrive as a free agent on a two-year deal when his contract at Espanyol expires. Martin’s father Alvin is a former West Ham defender, and he is keen to put pressure on Lukasz Fabianski next season and challenge for a starting spot under manager Manuel Pellegrini.

“Signing for West Ham United is a dream, both for me and my family,” he told the club’s official website. “I’ve grown up around West Ham and to come to my boyhood club is a dream. “I came to games as a kid as one of the supporters in the stands at the Boleyn Ground. I loved watching my dad play, and I’ve continued coming to games throughout my career.

“You can see the impact the fans can have on the team and it gives you goosebumps. The fans at West Ham are brilliant and it’s fantastic to be a part of this great club. “I’ve always been an enthusiastic and positive person – I’ll always go into training every day with that attitude to compete with Lukasz and Roberto.”
