Harmer Hails ‘Special’ Blast Victory

Essex captain Simon Harmer has hailed their victory in the T20 Blast as “special” after playing a vital part in their success. Worcestershire, who were hoping to retain the title, set Essex a target of 145 at Edgbaston and it went right down to the wire.

Essex were in trouble after falling to 82-5 but they showed incredible fighting spirit to seal a four-wicket final-ball victory. Ravi Bopara hit an unbeaten 36 while Harmer was integral to their fightback as he knocked 18 off just seven balls.

The 30-year-old skipper, who also took 3-16, told BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra: “We said at the beginning of the competition it’s always been about the County Championship and we’re just happy to be in the T20, but I really, really wanted that. “It was one of those days were everything came off, my bowling and my batting. It’s a special night.”
