Hatton Happy With Positive Performance

Tyrrell Hattton says he is pleased with his start to The Open after carding a three-under-par 68 on day one. Englishman Hatton, who came into the tournament at Royal Portrush on the back of a T14 finish at the Scottish Open, made birdies at holes five, 12, 14 and 17 before reaching the 18th hole.

However, the 27-year-old made his first error of the day when dropping a shot at the last and had to settle for a three-under-par 68, leaving him right in contention after the opening 18 holes.

Speaking after his round, the world number 43 says the blemish right at the end was frustrating but, overall, he is pleased with his work on day one in Northern Ireland.

“Obviously it was a good day’s work,” Hatton told Sky Sports. “A little bit frustrating to drop a shot on the last. But I was in between two shots on the tee and didn’t do either, which is normally the case.

“I felt the rain coming in and sort of rushed it a little bit, which was a mistake, unfortunately. But apart from that, it’s been a really good day.”
