Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz has thanked the German league for allowing him the chance to prove himself at such a young age. The 19-year-old has already made 78 appearances in all competitions for Die Werkself and enjoyed his 66th Bundesliga outing in Leverkusen’s 2-0 victory over Stuttgart on Friday night.

He played a starring role in the centre of the park as Kevin Volland bagged both of the home side’s goals late in the second half to ensure the points stayed at BayArena.
English 18-year-olds Jadon Sancho and Reiss Nelson have been given an opportunity at Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim respectively and Havertz has hailed the German top-flight’s mentality regarding youth. “I’ve got three seasons under my belt, well this is my third, and people can see that youngsters get a chance in the Bundesliga,” he told the Bundesliga website.
“I can see that continuing and it will allow young players to take on responsibility at a younger age. In that regard I think I can be viewed as an example.”
