Herrera Sets Sights On European Success

New signing Hector Herrera is confident that he can help Atletico Madrid win the Champions League.

The 29-year-old midfielder arrived at the Wanda Metropolitano on a three-year deal earlier this week, having agreed on a move back in March following a six-year stint at Portuguese side Porto where he made 245 appearances.

Herrara, who has won 70 caps for Mexico, arrives as a direct replacement for Manchester City-bound Rodri and he is already aiming high in terms of his ambitions with Atleti.

He said: “I join with all the readiness in the world, with the enthusiasm and desire to contribute my best. I’m very excited and motivated, grateful for the opportunity with one of the clubs with the greatest histories.

“I haven’t had a chance to speak to [Diego Simeone]. Tomorrow I will. Atletico was the best option, I think, because of their system, which is perfect for my style of play.”

And, when asked if winning the Champions League was a possibility, Herrero added: “Yes, it is. There’s a lot of excitement about that trophy. Everyone wants to win it.”
