Hill Excited For World Cup Warm-Ups

Wales forward Cory Hill is convinced the Test matches against England and Ireland will be “flat out” ahead of the World Cup.

The Grand Slam winners from the Six Nations have four World Cup warm-up matches before they head off to Japan in September, with a double-header scheduled against both England and Ireland.

Players will be fighting to make it into Warren Gatland’s squad for the tournament and, despite the looming threat of any injuries, the 27-year-old second-row says they will be treated like a serious competition event.

“That’s rugby union,” he told Press Association. “You’re going to get injuries no matter what games you play. You can still pick up knocks if you play nations lower down (the rankings). “Playing England and Ireland is the biggest challenge we could have before the World Cup.

“They will be flat-out Test matches against teams in the top five in the world. They are local derbies as well, so there’s a little bit more to add to it. “We certainly won’t be undercooked going to the World Cup because I’m sure everyone will get game-time in those matches.”
