Hoedt Opens Up On Saints Exit

Wesley Hoedt says Ralph Hasenhuttl made it clear from the off that he didn’t want him at Southampton this season.

Netherlands international Hoedt was a regular fixture under the previous manager Mark Hughes but the centre-back then did not feature under new boss Hasenhuttl, who took charge on December 5.

The 24-year-old ended up joining La Liga outfit Celta Vigo on loan in January for the remainder of the campaign and he has made two appearances for his temporary employers, both which ended in defeats.

Speaking about his loan exit from St Mary’s, Hoedt said his relationship with the new manager was only going to result in one thing happening.

“I really don’t know,” he said in an interview to Spanish newspaper La Voz de Galicia. “I was playing every game, but there was a change of coach and the new one made it very clear to me that he didn’t like me, that he didn’t want me.

“It was complicated for me, but I couldn’t do anything about it, so I’m lucky I could find a solution by coming to a club like this.”
