Homa Snares Maiden PGA Title

Max Homa kept his cool to see off a quality field and clinch his first PGA Tour title with victory at the Wells Fargo Championship. Homa started the day tied for the lead with fellow Americans Joel Dahmen and Jason Dufner at 11 under, but a well-constructed round of 67 pulled him clear of the pack to finish on 15 under.

Dahmen finished three shots back on 12 under, with England’s Justin Rose on 11 under, two ahead of Rickie Fowler, Paul Casey and Sergio Garcia. Rory McIlroy finished seven-under. 28-year-old Homa, who is ranked 417 in the world, is in his third season on the PGA tour and hopes the maiden win will now set him up for the rest of his career.

“Like I’m in a dream I think,” he said when asked how he feels after the win. “I didn’t know if this day would ever come, let alone just keeping my (PGA Tour) card. “But I’ve been working my tail off and I’ve been seeing a lot of great results and my gosh it’s cool to do it here because I love this place as much as any. “It’s great for my family, my fiance – I’m getting married in a few months – everything’s good now.”the rest of his career.
