Honda Dismiss Red Bull Favouritism Talk

Honda has dismissed suggestions they will favour Red Bull over their sister team Toro Rosso when supplying engines to both in 2019.

The Japanese manufacturer was the sole supplier of power units to Toro Rosso in 2018 following the end of their partnership with McLaren the previous year.

It was announced midway through the 2018 campaign that Red Bull would be severing ties with Renault to link up with Honda.

It was seen at the time that Toro Rosso had been acting like guinea pigs by taking on Honda engines to enable them to have their power units ready to hit the ground running for the start of the Red Bull partnership.

However, Honda has spoken out to insist that they will not be favouring Red Bull and they will also be fully compliant with F1 rules by providing equal equipment to both partners.

“It [providing the same parts] is the most logical method and one which Honda feels is best, not to mention that the regulations state we must supply all teams equally,” said F1 Technical Director Toyoharu Tanabe.

“But it’s not just a case of supplying the two teams with the same technical hardware. “We will also treat them equally in terms of the resources we allocate to manage our operations and on the development side.

“This should be quite a straightforward procedure as the two teams are part of the same family and because we can work with Red Bull Technology.”
