Horschel Adds Wentworth To Schedule

Billy Horschel says he wants to play in the BMW PGA Championship every year after making a rare appearance in Surrey last week. Generally, American players have been a little travel shy when it comes to competing in European Tour events, but with the revamped schedule this season, the US stars were able to make the trip to Wentworth.

World number 32 Horschel, along with compatriots Patrick Reed, Tony Finau, Kurt Kitayama, Andrew Putnam, Julian Suri and David Lipsky, all competed for the coveted BMW PGA Championship last week. Englishman Danny Willett, who won the Masters in 2016, ended up claiming the spoils after finishing the event on -20, overcoming Spaniard Jon Rahm in a tense final-round battle.

Horschel tied with Reed for fourth place, making it the best ever result by an American at Wentworth, and the 32-year-old is hoping to play in the tournament every year now. “If this fits in my schedule every year – I hope it does because I’ve actually loved it – I’m going to come over here every time. I think this event is world-class,” he told reporters.

“The course is world-class. The European Tour does an unbelievable job. This is my first time playing an actual European event that wasn’t co-sanctioned with another tour and it’s just fabulous. “I will come back and hopefully it fits in my schedule every year because I want to be here. I think I would love to hold this trophy up.”
