Hovland Set For European Tour Bow

Viktor Hovland will make his first European Tour appearance as a professional during next week’s BMW PGA Championship. The Norwegian enjoyed a highly successful amateur career, winning the US Amateur Championship in 2018 before finishing tied for 32nd at the Masters and tied for 12th at the US Open this year – both performances seeing him finish as the leading amateur.

The 21-year-old turned professional following his US Open heroics and has already claimed a top-four finish on the PGA Tour at last month’s Wyndham Championship, while he has also shot up to 111th in the world rankings. Hovland will now make his first appearance on the European Tour as a professional at Wentworth next week.

He will play alongside a high-class field that included world number two Rory McIlroy and defending champion Francesco Molinari. The tournament also marks the start of qualifying for Padraig Harrington’s 2020 European Ryder Cup team and Hovland is looking forward to teeing up at such a prestigious venue and tournament.

“I’m really looking forward to my first professional appearance on the European Tour at Wentworth next week,” Howland told the European Tour website. “The BMW PGA Championship is one of the biggest events in Europe and it is a tournament I would always watch growing up in Norway, so I’m excited to now get the chance to play in it.

“The tournament and the venue have so much history and the field is obviously very strong. I would love to play well and get my European Tour career off to a good start.”
