Howe Heaps Praise On Versatile Cherries Star

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has praised Nathan Ake for his performances in midfield of late, but concedes it “isn’t ideal”.

Ake has been a mainstay at centre-half for the Cherries this season but has featured at full-back and midfield in recent weeks.

The 24-year-old started in central midfield in the 1-0 win over Spurs on Saturday and grabbed his fourth Premier League goal of the campaign in injury time.

Howe would prefer to have Ake in the heart of defence, but he is happy to have the versatile Dutchman available to fill the void in other areas when required. “When you consider the past two games I think we have moved him about four or five positions – that’s the importance and the quality of the player,” Howe said.

“He does it with no fuss, no attitude and with no frustration. “It’s not ideal that we have moved him all these different positions but against Tottenham I thought he was excellent in midfield. “When you see a player who gives everything, no matter where he has played, it was fitting he got the goal at the end and it was a crucial goal.”
