Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe says Adam Smith’s absence will come as a “massive loss” to his side. Smith has to be removed from the action on a stretcher in the Cherries’ 2-1 defeat at Newcastle on Saturday with a knee injury.

Howe says the injury looks “serious” and it looks as if Smith may be sidelined for a significant period of time.
The Bournemouth boss admits the defender’s injury has come as a huge blow but backed his squad to cope while the 27-year-old is recovering.
“We are all thinking of Adam,” he told the Daily Echo. “He is a massive loss. He is a huge player for us and has been a really positive driving influence for the team, consistently getting forward. His defending has been of the highest level as well.
“We are certainly going to miss Adam but that is what the squad is there for – to be able to cover for such talented players.”
Bournemouth should discover the extent of Smith’s injury and how long he is likely to be sidelined for in the coming days.
