Southampton boss Mark Hughes has praised the fitness of full-back Cedric Soares who has had a busy couple of months. Portugal international Cedric was the last player to return to pre-season training with the Saints this summer after his exploits for his country at the World Cup, but due to the club’s lack of options at right-back he has started all four of their Premier League games this term.
Hughes admits he has asked a lot of Cedric and has praised the fitness levels of the former Sporting Lisbon player as he feels he has quickly hit top form.
“He’s a fit boy anyway so it’s not as if he’s going to lose too much fitness,” Hughes was quoted as saying by the Daily Echo.
“He didn’t have a huge break, three of four weeks maximum, but it’s not like when I was playing where you didn’t do anything pre-season and it took three or four weeks to get the excess fat off.
“These guys have really low body fat so it’s not quite like it was in my day.”
