Hughes Hopeful Of Kick-Starting New Era

Warrington second-row Jack Hughes is determined to win the Challenge Cup final to usher in a new era for the club. The Wolves take on runaway league leaders St Helens in the showpiece event on Saturday at Wembley, after beating Hull FC in the semi-final last month.

However, Warrington’s form has been disastrous leading up to the final having lost their five last league games. They will also be without star man Blake Austin for the final due to an injury picked up at Catalans earlier in the month.

However, Hughes, himself having only just recovered from a ruptured testicle, says he wants to win the trophy to put behind the bad memories of last year’s final loss to Catalans. He said: “To only have bad memories of what should be a good time is pretty upsetting.

“As a club under Steve, our next step is to bring a trophy to the club. We made it to both finals last year which you could say was a good year, but we have high expectations. We really expect ourselves to bring trophies back now. “We know how good Saints are, as does everyone else, they deserve to be where they are. “We’re going to have to be at our best without a doubt.”
