Brighton boss Chris Hughton has confirmed Dan Burn will join in January after being loaned to Wigan over the summer.
The 26-year-old was signed by Brighton prior to the 2018-19 season for an undisclosed fee before being loaned straight back to Wigan to continue his development.
He has spent the majority of the campaign on the sidelines with a broken foot but he returned to action in the 4-0 loss to Preston earlier this month.
Hughton insists Brighton were always planning on bringing Burn back in January and feels he can add some extra competition in the backline.
Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy have played the majority of Brighton’s Premier League fixtures in the heart of defence, while summer signing Leon Balogun has turned out twice in the top flight.
Burn certainly faces a battle to force his way into the starting XI but it will provide Hughton with further depth during the second half of the term.
“Dan Burn will join in January too – we have two centre halves playing well and Leon Balogun pushing them all the way and playing for his country,” Hughton said.
“That’s always been the plan with Dan.”
