Impulsive Star Claims Maiden Win Over Fences

Impulsive Star secured his maiden win over fences after winning the McCoy Contractors Civil Engineering Classic Chase at Warwick on Saturday.

The nine-year-old was winless from his five previous attempts over the larger obstacles although he had produced some fine performances during that time, including a fourth-place finish in the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham last March.

The Neil Mulholland-trained gelding was also on form on Saturday as he saw off the likes of Calett Mad, Crosspark and last year’s winner, Milansbar, to claim overall glory in the prestigious contest.

Mulholland was pleased with Impulsive Star’s latest performance and felt everything “came together”. “I’m delighted with him,” Mulholland was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“We knew he’d improve for the run, he had a light weight on his back today and we felt he was on a nice mark. It all came together on the day.”

Impulsive Star is now expected to have another tilt at the National Hunt Chase, due to take place on day one of this year’s Cheltenham Festival.

“He ran well in the National Hunt Chase last year and obviously he’s still a novice, so that’s the plan again,” Mulholland added.
