India Wrap Up Series Success

India have wrapped up their ODI series against New Zealand with two games to spare following their seven-wicket victory on Monday. The tourists moved into an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series thanks largely to a second-wicket partnership of 113 from Rohit Sharma (62) and Virat Kohli (60), as they comfortably chased down their modest target of 244 off just 43.1 overs at the Bay Oval in Tauranga.

Earlier, New Zealand had been bowled out for just 243 despite a spirited knock of 93 from Ross Taylor.

Mohammed Shami was the pick of the touring bowlers, finishing with figures of 3-41, while he was ably assisted by the returning Hardik Pandya (2-45), as Kiwi captain Kane Williamson was perhaps left regretting his decision to bat first.

India will now be looking to complete a series whitewash by winning the finals two ODIs, starting with Thursday’s clash in Hamilton.

The news is not all good for India, however, as it was also confirmed that part-time spinner Ambati Rayudu, who finished Monday’s match unbeaten at the crease on 40, has been banned from bowling in international cricket due to a suspect action.

The 33-year-old was reported following India’s ODI defeat to Australia on January 12 and, after failing to submit to a test of his action within the required 14 days, he has now been banned until he can demonstrate that his technique is legal.
