Ings Missing For Cardiff Visit

Southampton are without injured striker Danny Ings for Saturday’s crucial home Premier League clash against Cardiff City.

Ings was forced off in the first half of the 1-1 draw at Burnley last time out after picking up a hamstring problem and manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed he is facing a spell on the sidelines.

“Danny made a big step towards the ball and then a sprint after 20 minutes, and then he had a problem with his hamstring,” he said at a press conference on Thursday. “It may take 2-3 weeks until he can come back, which is not good. We’ll miss him for sure because he’s a good player and a good striker.”

However, the Austrian tactician provided better news on midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, left-back Ryan Bertrand and centre-back Maya Yoshida, with the trio all available for selection.

“The good thing is that we have Pierre back after concussion. It is important for us because we missed him a little bit with his experience in the position,” he added.

“Ryan is back and Maya Yoshida is back after the Asian Cup, so we have a few more options, which helps us. “It helps to have better training sessions also and more quality in the training.”
