Watford were one of six clubs that Bologna striker Mattia Destro refused to join in the summer, according to reports in Italy. The 27-year-old forward, an Italy international, was warned that he would be fourth-choice at his club if he remained at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
But the Corriere dello Sport claim he turned down offers from Watford, West Ham, Udinese, Genoa, Parma and Sampdoria to fight for a first-team place with the Rossoblu.
Destro scored six goals in 19 Serie A appearances last term but has been squeezed out of the line-up this term, coming off the bench in two of Bologna’s opening three matches for a total of just 29 minutes of action.
The report claims Destro refused to even enter negotiations with any of the interested clubs and he instead fancied his chances of proving himself more reliable than any of the other strikers at the club.
