Keaton Jennings advanced his cause for a place in next week’s Test match against Sri Lanka in the final warm-up game in Colombo. After the first of the two-day friendly was washed out, England managed a 50-overs-a-side game against a President’s XI and Jennings hit 45 runs before retiring from the crease.
It was not the most stylish of knocks but he looked determined as he tries to cement a place at the top of the order, possibly alongside Rory Burns.
Whilst Jennings was pushing his cause to be included in next week’s first Test, Kent’s Joe Denley looked as though he was doing his best to show why he should not be in the side.
After dropping a dolly of a catch in the first warm-up game, things got no better in the second. He came in at three and was out for a second-ball duck, and followed up with five overs of leg spin which were thrashed round the ground for 43 runs.
