Jimenez Stars In Mexico’s Gold Cup Glory

Wolves striker Raul Jimenez paid tribute to Mexico boss ‘Tata’ Martino after starring in El Tri’s Concacaf Gold Cup final win over USA. The Molineux man laid on the assist for Jonathan Dos Santos to score the only goal of the final against the hosts in Chicago on Sunday night.

Jimenez finished as the tournament’s second-highest goalscorer with five strikes and also scooped the Golden Ball as the Gold Cup’s best player. “The trophy is important, but the greatest thing is to have won a title with the national team,” said Jimenez later.

“To wear the Mexican shirt is always an honour and pride, but if we also get a title, then it’s great. “I am very grateful for all the confidence that ‘Tata’ is giving me, as are his technical team and my teammates. I feel that I have his support at every moment and that is what fills me in every moment of confidence to give a hundred per cent in each moment and I can do what I try.”
