Wolves striker Raul Jimenez insists he will continue to take penalties despite failing once from the spot against Uruguay on Saturday. Jimenez scored Mexico’s equaliser in the friendly match at Houston’s NRG Stadium when he beat Uruguay keeper Fernando Muslera from 12 yards out after Hirving Lozano drew a foul from Rodrigo Bentancur in the penalty area.
But Muslera guessed correctly when dived low to his right to stop Jimenez’s second penalty with 16 minutes remaining.
The El Tri striker has only failed twice from the penalty spot and still has a better than 90 per cent success rate after scoring 19 of the 21 penalties he has taken as a professional.
“In the end we all fail and I raised my head up thinking that I did wrong…but in the end I will not give up because this does not end here and I will keep taking the ball on penalties,” he said.
Jimenez will not change his peculiar penalty technique, which sees him watch the goalkeeper until the very last second, in the future despite the latest miss.
“It has given me a lot of time, I can fail or put them in but I hope to continue like that and that will not change,” he added.
