Johnston Getting Back To His Best

Johnston Getting Back To His Best

Andrew Johnston believes he is getting back to his best as he prepares to compete in this week’s ISPS Handa Vic Open. The Englishman, nicknamed ‘Beef’, has endured a tough couple of years but has been enthused by his start to the new season.

Johnston made an impressive breakthrough on the European Tour, winning his maiden title at the Open de Espana in April 2016. However, almost three years on, he is yet to add to his trophy haul.

Speaking ahead of his appearance at the Australian event, Johnston said: “I played well in Dubai (finished tied 24th). It’s been a while since I felt like the Saturday when I shot seven-under, been a while since I felt like that on a golf course. “I feel like I’m close to getting back. I think it’s been a funny couple of years for me. 2016 was great, I played some good golf. Then the last couple of years I haven’t been happy with the way I’ve played. “I’ve made quite a lot of changes swing-wise, so yeah, it’s all real positive. I’m in a good place. “I have a new coach (Hugh Marr) and I find that’s been working well, and I don’t think I’m that far away from playing some really good golf.”
Johnston enjoyed a top-10 finish at the Australian PGA Championship before Christmas and will be hoping to challenge at the top of the leaderboard again at Geelong when the action begins on Thursday.
