Jones Questions England Mentality

England head coach Eddie Jones claims his side need to address the mental side of their game following their collapse against Scotland.

The Red Rose were cruising to victory at one stage, leading 31-0 at Twickenham on Saturday. Scotland, though, produced a remarkable comeback to take a 38-31 lead and it was only a last-gasp George Ford try that saw the spoils shared in the final game of the 2019 Six Nations.

With the Calcutta Cup heading back up north to Murrayfield, Jones has questioned the mental strength of his side and feels it is an area in which they must improve ahead of the World Cup.

“We just lacked discipline to keep doing the simple things well,” he told the BBC. “We failed to get control and discipline back into the game when it gets loose, and we think we are on top and get a bit ‘free-wheely’.

“It’s 100% mental – there was no physical difference. It’s going to take some digging deep into the team psyche.”
