Jones Takes Another Swipe At Sexton

England head coach Eddie Jones has had another swipe at Johnny Sexton ahead of their Six Nations clash on February 2.

The English team boss has previously caused controversy with his comments about the Ireland fly-half in 2016 when he claimed that Sexton’s “mother and father would be worried” about injuries leading into their Six Nations clash that year.

Even in November last year he suggested Sexton was given greater protection by officials than his own stand-off Owen Farrell.

Once again Sexton has been the focus for Jones, who now feels the Leinster star is given preferential treatment from referees. “Sexton has the bat phone to the referee. When he talks, the referee listens,” said Jones.

“That is because of his status in the game – you earn that, like [former New Zealand captain] Richie McCaw did.”

The Red Rose will be looking for revenge against the Irish in Dublin next month, having suffered a 24-15 defeat in their last meetings at Twickenham back in March.
