AJ confirms future fight plans

Anthony Joshua will look to fight Deontay Wilder and then Oleksandr Usyk if he overcomes Jarrell Miller in New York on June 1. The undefeated IBF, WBA and WBO champion will make his United States debut against ‘Big Baby’ Miller at Madison Square Garden this summer, but he is already looking further ahead in his quest to dominate the heavyweight division.

The 29-year-old British fighter has made no secret of his desire to become undisputed champion and he wants to fight WBC strap holder Wilder at the next available opportunity. Wilder will face Dominic Breazeale on May 18 and, should the American negotiate that bout, then Joshua is aiming to be his next opponent.

Looking beyond a possible unification showdown, Joshua is also keen to face-off at some point with Usyk, who will make his heavyweight bow against Carlos Takam on May 25 having dominated the cruiserweight division. Joshua told Sky Sports: “It’s really good because we’ve got me and Miller, Wilder vs Breazeale, (Tyson) Fury vs (Tom) Schwarz, Dillian Whyte is going to do something, Usyk vs Takam.

“The heavyweight division is alive. It is booming. “I think it will be class if I can fight Wilder for the undisputed title and then I could fight Usyk because then that would be the undisputed heavyweight champion versus the undisputed cruiserweight champion at heavyweight.

That would be unbelievable.” When pressed further on a possible Wilder showdown, Joshua added: “I’ve done the [Joseph] Parker fight, I fought for that [WBO] title. I’ve fought (Alexander) Povetkin, now I’ve got to do Miller and I just need to get past this one. “If I don’t get Wilder, what am I doing it for? If I don’t get my hands on the WBC belt, what am I doing it for? I really want that chance and that opportunity.”
