Martin Kaymer’s long wait for a title could be set to end as he will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the Memorial Tournament. The German came into the weekend in a three-way tie for the lead, but a bogey-free round of 66 was enough to propel him clear of the field on 15-under-par.
The 34-year-old has not won on either the European or PGA Tour since he claimed his second major title at the US Open in 2014, but he believes his game is in good shape and he can end that long wait on Sunday. “I really enjoy playing this golf course,” Kaymer told Sky Sports.

“I hit a lot fairways, my short game is where it should be and I think it’ll be an exciting Sunday. “Tomorrow is playing brave, playing the way I can play, enjoying the capability of my game. Everything is there. I don’t need to hold back with anything. I don’t need to be afraid of something that could happen. I just look forward to whatever happens tomorrow.”
Adam Scott is Kaymer’s nearest rival, as he also posted a score of 66 to move onto 13-under-par, while a group of three players, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay and Hideki Matsuyama sit a further two shots back – the latter recording a round of the day score of 64.
Justin Rose had propelled his way into contention with a second round of score of 63, but he could only follow that up with a 71 on Saturday which leaves him eight shots off the lead and seemingly out of contention. Tiger Woods’ chances of winning also seem to be over after a two-under-par score of 70 leaves him 11 shots off the pace.
