Kaymer Storms Into BMW Lead

Home favourite Martin Kaymer produced a brilliant performance on day two of the BMW International Open to open up a two-shot lead. World number 93 Kaymer opened the tournament at Golf club Munchen Eichenried with a round of 67 and he managed to keep that momentum going on Friday, posting a six-under-par 66 to take the halfway lead.

The 34-year-old German made eight birdies and two bogeys during his second set of 18 holes to move on to -11 overall, two strokes clear of South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who signed for a seven-under-par 65. Sweden’s Sebastian Soderberg and Finland’s Kim Koivu share third position on -8 – leaving them three shots off the pace – after the duo carded rounds of 67 and 66 respectively.

Englishman Lee Westwood, who is looking for his 25th European Tour title and first success since November 2018, heads a group of seven players a further shot back on -7. The 46-year-old’s compatriots, Matt Wallace and Jordan Smith, Italian pair Edoardo Molinari and Andrea Pavan, German Max Schmitt and Spaniard Alvaro Quiros are all on that mark.
