Klopp Drops Hint On Milner Contract

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hinted that the versatile James Milner could be in line for a new contract at the club. Klopp has seen Milner become a vital part of the Reds squad since joining in 2015, being named vice-captain and making over 130 appearances for the Merseyside outfit.

The 33-year-old’s contribution over the last few seasons has been crucial, playing at left-back, right-back and in his favoured midfield for the club.

He’s has also played a pivotal role in helping Liverpool reach the Champions League final in each of the last two seasons.

The former England international is due to see his current deal expire in the summer of 2020 and having left Manchester City as a free agent, will not be worried about that scenario repeating itself.

However, Klopp has suggested it will not go that far and has described “Milly” as a valued player. “Nobody is nervous, we are in talks constantly, but there is nothing for the public at the moment,” he said. “It is really early, it is still September and we have time to do things with all the players, the relationship is very trustful.”

Although Milner has seen his role in the squad reduced this season due to the midfield trio of Georginio Wijnaldum, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, Klopp is clearly keen to sign him to a new contract.

If it is left too late, he could depart as a free agent at the end of the campaign but with talks ongoing, the two parties appear comfortable with the situation.

Milner has only started once for the Reds during the 2019/20 Premier League season, instead often being used as a substitute, making five appearances off the bench.
