Knox Reveals Ryder Cup Dream

Russell Knox says he is fully focused on trying to automatically qualify for Europe’s 2020 Ryder Cup team. Ryder Cup holders Europe will be looking to triumph on American soil for the first time since 2012 when they make the trip to Whistling Straits next year for the biennial men’s golf competition.

Irishman Padraig Harrington has been handed the captaincy for the event, taking over from Thomas Bjorn, and Scotland’s Knox has revealed making the team automatically is his number one goal. “I’m thinking about Ryder Cup already,” he was quoted as saying by www.thecourier.co.uk.

“I’ve had enough of not making that team. When David (Clark, his caddie) and I sat down on January 1 to work out the goals, No 1 was: make the Ryder Cup team. Since then, I think about it every day. “I’m going to do everything I can not to miss that team when it comes around.

There’s going to be plenty of baby steps along the way but it’s as simple as if I play good, I’ll be right there and if I don’t, I’ve got no chance.” Knox also conceded he won’t be handed a wildcard pick for the Ryder Cup due to his outsider stance. He added: “I’m always going to be an outsider, I don’t honestly see me ever getting picked (as a wildcard). I am a U.S. citizen but at the same time, I feel like I am obviously Scottish.”
