Kohfeldt Says Hertha Point Felt Like A Defeat

Werder Bremen head coach Florian Kohfeldt says the 1-1 draw with Hertha Berlin felt like a defeat as they failed to hold on to the lead.

Werder started the game brightly and took a deserved lead when Josh Sargent fired home the opening goal after just seven minutes, but they could not grab a second despite dominating possession and chances.

Hertha then punished Werder for their lack of quality in front of goal as Dodi Lukebakio grabbed the equaliser 20 minutes from time.

The home side tried to respond and pushed for the winner, but Hertha held out to earn a point, much to the frustration of Kohfeldt, who could not hide his disappointment after the game.

Werder drew 2-2 with Eintracht Frankfurt two weeks ago and another point was not what the boss was after. “It feels like a defeat,” he told reporters after the game.

“We deserved to win, given how the game went. It doesn’t make the result feel any better but that’s one of the best performances we’ve had this season. “We created lots of chances and had a fantastic link-up play.

We played our type of football a lot better than we did in Frankfurt, which makes it all the more frustrating.

“The fact that we created so many chances makes me optimistic because eventually, they will go in. We want to pick up more points. We need to fight until the end to make sure we get the results. We certainly have enough quality to do that.”
