Vincent Kompany believes Manchester City and Liverpool could be pushed hard by Chelsea in the title race.
The Citizens and the Reds have been widely tipped to duke it out for top spot in the Premier League and meet for the first time this season on Sunday at Anfield.
Their four meetings last term produced 18 goals and fireworks are expected but Kompany insists there should not be excessive focus on the outcome.
Earlier in the afternoon Chelsea play at Southampton and with the Blues two points behind the pair of early season pace-setters, the City captain says they could well throw a spanner into the works.
“I don’t agree with just putting City and Liverpool as title contenders,” Kompany said. “Chelsea have shown so much already this season. Arsenal, Tottenham are coming back.
“You’d think there’d be a bigger points gap by now but it’s not. I think most teams at the top are firing on all cylinders at this moment in time and this makes this league exciting.”
