Korhonen Wins China Play-Off

Mikko Korhonen has won his second European Tour title after beating Benjamin Hebert in a play-off at the Volvo China Open on Sunday. The Finn headed into the final round sitting three shots behind overnight leader Hebert, but a score of 66 that included seven birdies and just one dropped shot was enough to move him onto 20-under-par for the tournament.

Frenchman Hebert did manage to force a play-off after picking up a birdie at the last, but it was Korhonen that held his nerve on the first sudden-death hole, sinking a 10-foot birdie putt to seal his first European Tour title since his triumph at last year’s Shot Clock Masters. “It was a battle all day as everyone was making putts and I had to stay patient and do the same,” Korhonen said.

“It’s great to have this second win in the bag and I’m delighted.” Spaniard Jorge Campillo, who won last week’s Trophee Hassan II, continued his impressive recent form as he finished a shot behind the leaders on 19-under, although bogeys at 14 and 15 put paid to his chances. Home favourite Haotong Li finished a further three shots back on 16-under after an impressive final round of 66, with a further five players ending the tournament in a tie for fifth, including England’s Jordan Smith.
