Kuchar Revels In Hawaii Triumph

Matt Kuchar says he is delighted with his fast start to the 2018-19 season after claiming the spoils at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

It was no more than three months ago that questions were being asked about Kuchar’s standing in the game, with the American struggling for form and failing to taste success since the 2014 RBC Heritage.

However, the 40-year-old roared back to form with a victory at the 2018 Mayakoba Golf Classic before claiming his second PGA Tour title of the season on Sunday at the Sony Open.

Leading by two shots going into the last round, the world number 22 made seven birdies and three bogeys in a four-under-par 66 to finish the tournament -22, four strokes clear of compatriot Andrew Putnam in second.

Australian Marc Leishman, who has climbed to 16th in the world rankings, ended up in a four-way share of third on -17 alongside US duo Hudson Swafford and Chez Reavie and Canadian Corey Conners.

Speaking about his second win of the campaign, Kuchar, quoted as saying by pgatour.com, said: “I’m tickled, thrilled to have won two events this early in the year.

To have won two out of three starts on the PGA TOUR is mind-boggling to me. “It absolutely sets up the year to be in great position for the FedExCup. There is a lot of year left and a lot of great things that are out there to be done.”
