Kuldeep Shines To Give India Control

Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets for India as Australia struggled to 236-6 on day three of the fourth Test at the SCG.

The 24-year-old made the breakthrough by dismissing Usman Khawaja for 27 and followed that up by claiming the scalps of Travis Head (20) and skipper Tim Paine for five as the Asians took an even firmer grip of the match.

The Baggy Greens began the day on 24-0 and advanced their score to 72 with some cautions batting before Kuldeep struck the first blow.

Fellow opener Marcus Harris batted positively for 79 but was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja to prompt a collapse, with Shaun Marsh falling for just eight before Marnus Labuschagne went for 38.

The hosts needed the middle order to come to the party and, after Head and Paine had been removed, Peter Handscomb dug in to end the day unbeaten on 28 from 91 balls faced while Pat Cummins will begin day four on 25.

Play ended early due to bad light but the men from Down Under trail by 386 runs with four first-innings wickets intact and, as the Sydney pitch traditionally helps spinners on the final two days, it will need a monumental effort for the home side to stave off defeat and a 3-1 series loss.
