Kvitova Through To The Final

Petra Kvitova has beaten unseeded American Danielle Collins in straight sets to make the final of the Australian Open.

Kvitova, who was bidding to make her first Grand Slam final since being stabbed during a robbery at her home in 2016, was taken to a tie break in the first set, but was soon on top, winning it comfortably 7-2.

The second set was also a breeze for the two-time Wimbledon champion as she crushed Collins 6-0 to book her place in Saturday’s final.

The 28-year-old will now face either Naomi Osaka or Karolina Pliskova, but after recovering from the trauma of being stabbed, which threatened to end her career, she is just delighted to have made it the to the final.

“This means everything, that’s why I work really hard – to be in a final at a Grand Slam,” she said. “Finally, I made it deep into a major. Whatever happens in the final I am very happy.”
