England have been rocked by the news Joe Launchbury will miss the autumn tests after being told he requires knee surgery. The 27-year-old was left out of the Wasps line up for the Heineken Champions Cup opener against Leinster because of the problem, but it was initially hoped he would not be out for long.
However all parties have since decided it would be better to hopefully put the problem to bed once and for all by having surgery that means he will be out for up to 10 weeks.
Launchbury started the season well but has been missing for the last three fixtures after suffering the injury during his club’s victory over Leicester last month.
It has been suggested his post-surgery rehab is likely to continue into December which means he will be unavailable for the clashes with South Africa, New Zealand, Japan and Australia next month.
Launchbury has had injury issues in the past and missed the first Test in England’s summer series against South Africa back in June, due to a calf problem.
