Unsettled left-back Achraf Lazaar is closing in on a move from Newcastle United to Genoa, reports claim. The Morocco international arrived at St James’ Park in 2016 from Palermo but he has failed to make any real impact on the first team, having amassed just 578 minutes of football for the Magpies.
Lazaar spent last season on loan at Benevento but, once again, he struggled for playing time, featuring in just nine Serie A matches as the Stregoni were relegated from Italy’s top flight.
Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has deemed the 26-year-old surplus to requirements on Tyneside and he looks set to make a permanent move to Genoa, who are ready to fork out £2.9million for the full-back.The Rossoblu need to replace the loss of Diego Laxalt, who is closing in on a move to AC Milan after impressing at the World Cup for Uruguay, and Lazaar has been identified as that player.
It is thought a move will be wrapped up in the coming days, bringing the defender’s torrid spell in the north east to an end.
