Lazio Legend Wants Zappacosta

Former Lazio captain Giuseppe “Pino” Wilson says signing Chelsea’s Davide Zappacosta should be a priority for the club this month. The Italian has struggled to make an impact since switching to Stamford Bridge from Torino in the summer of 2017 and seems to have been frozen out by compatriot Maurizio Sarri.

A January exit has been talked about and Lazio are likely to be keen as Simone Inzaghi looks for an upgrade in the right wing-back role.

Neither Martin Caceres nor Dusan Basta have consistently impressed this season and Wilson feels the 26-year-old is the man to fill the void.

Darlington-born “Pino” captained Lazio to the Serie A title in 1973-74 and is still thought to hold influence within the club.

Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb.com, the 73-year-old admitted a new right-sided player was I Biancocelesti’s main goal for January and has identified Italy international Zappacosta as the best man for the job. “The priority is just this and I think that among all the names that have so far circulated, the most suitable is Zappacosta,” he said. “It would work best for Lazio because he has experience and has made a good path at club and international level.”
