Leclerc Sets The Pace For Ferrari

Charles Leclerc set the pace for Ferrari on day two of pre-season testing in Barcelona on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old Monegasque marked his debut appearance as a Ferrari driver in style, setting a best time of 1:18.247 from the 157 laps he completed, meaning he was within 0.1 seconds of the fastest time set by team-mate Sebastian Vettel on day one.

McLaren’s British rookie Lando Norris posted the second fastest time of the day, finishing just three tenths behind Leclerc following a late surge.

Haas’ Kevin Magnussen was third quickest despite only being seen in the early part of the day after the American team discovered a problem with his driving seat.

However, the day was not so impressive for reigning champions Mercedes, who for the second day running were absent from the top of the timesheets, with Valtteri Bottas finishing sixth quickest, four places above team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

Red Bull’s Pierre Gasly finished seventh quickest at Circuit de Catalunya and his day ended in spectacular fashion after he crashed his RB15 into the trackside barriers.

Testing will continue on Wednesday, with Williams expected to join the other eight teams during the afternoon session, with the British team having missed the opening two days of testing due to their FW42 car not being ready in time.
