Leicester Ambition Key For Perez

Ayoze Perez says the opportunity to grow and improve as a player played a big part in his summer switch to Leicester City. Former Spain Under-21 international Perez’s five-year stint at St James’ Park came to an end during this transfer window as the Foxes stumped up £30million to acquire his services from the Magpies.

During his time in the North East, the 26-year-old scored 42 league goals across the Championship and Premier League, helping the club win England’s second-tier title in the 2016/17 campaign. The forward is now plying his trade at Leicester and he revealed the difference in ambition between his former employers and the Foxes is night and day, while also admitting Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle exit rubber-stamped his decision to leave.

“The ambition of the club (Leicester) and the way they are doing the right things was very important in my decision. Also, as soon as Rafa left the decision was easier,” he told The Athletic. “Things could be done better over there at Newcastle, but Leicester have given me the opportunity to do great things hopefully.

There is big ambition. I think how football works, the way you have to look at football, that is the difference between Leicester and Newcastle. “There is big motivation here to keep growing and to get better here at Leicester. I didn’t feel they had it at Newcastle.”
